Challenge: A growing portfolio and fragile supply chains make transparency and control difficult

A historically grown product portfolio in the field of surgical instruments led to high degree of complexity. At the same time, disrupted supply chains and partial dependencies on suppliers for raw materials and intermediate products made it difficult to ensure security of supply. Fault-prone global supply chains and a lack of transparency made it difficult to evaluate the portfolio holistically and manage it in a targeted manner.

With MYNR’s data-driven Product Mining, KLS Martin was able to identify portfolio streamlining opportunities within just a few days from the analysis of around 12,000 SKUs. The analysis showed that approximately 20% of products were suitable for optimization.

By phasing out less profitable products, profitability can be improved in the short term as a side effect. At the same time, the number of active parts can be reduced by about  7% and suppliers by 2.5%, leading to tangible productivity and efficiency gains in the medium term.

But most importantly, the 360° view now enables KLS Martin to strengthen the resilience of its supply chains. The fast and comprehensive analysis of dependencies and their impact has already led to extensive optimization measures.
